Standards and Double Standards is an interactive installation with fifty belts suspended from ceiling-mounted stepper motors. Controlled by a tracking system, the belts rotate to face passers-by, creating dynamic patterns influenced by the number of people present. The installation visualizes complex dynamics like turbulence and quiet zones, turning surveillance into an unpredictable, connective system. Using the belt—a symbol of authority—the piece explores control and observation by creating an "absent crowd" and highlighting the interplay between presence and absence.
