Suspension of Disbelief (for Marine) features thirty modified 12-inch black-and-white video monitors mounted on a 12 x 330 x 9 inch aluminum beam. The beam is flush with and supported by the walls of the space. The monitors display close-up scans of a man and woman’s bodies, with segments flickering across the beam. Rapid image switching creates the illusion of larger body areas smeared across screens, while occasional overlapping and separation of the bodies leave disembodied fragments.
